Stitching Together For a Better Tomorrow

Community Outreach Overview

Our Community Outreach

Community outreach is one of the most robust parts of Waterloo County Quilters’ Guild programming. From affiliations to formally funded projects, our members currently support 13 initiatives in our local community. With deep gratitude for the opportunity to be involved, we take pride in our contributions. Handmade quilts are a special gift that can bring a unique comfort to those in difficult situations. We regularly host quilting bees and assemble kits for members to work on at home.

The outreach projects that have been formally supported for many years by WCQG are Smile Quilts, Pal Quilts, Alzheimer’s Touch Quilts, & Memory Quilts. Our members make and donate upward of 250 quilts each year to these initiatives alone.

Our members also actively participate in and support the cardiac care unit at St. Mary’s Hospital through the creation of Heart Pillows, the Knights of Columbus’ holiday programming through Teddy Bear Quilts, the KW Quilts of Valour, Days for Girls, and Quilts for survivors.

Some of the other efforts our members are affiliated with include quilting placemats for Meals on Wheels, contributing to Project Linus, and supporting Victoria Quilts. Finally, the Caring Connection meets monthly to sew quilts for charity, with donations going to causes like the MCC Relief Sale and other local organizations and fundraisers. Contact Judy S for more information on The Caring Connection.

We have many other Guild-supported projects that receive the encouragement and participation of our members but are not funded by the guild. For detailed information about our ongoing outreach projects, please click on the sections below. To contact any of the project coordinators, please refer to our Members' list or email the guild at waterloocountyqg@gmail.com and your message will be directed to the appropriate person.

Our guild is always open to supporting new community initiatives. If you have a cause you'd like to involve the guild in, or if you’d like more information about our outreach programs, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
