“What is improv and the creative process?” with Emilie Trahan from Quebec Canada.
We are delighted that Emilie Trahan will be joining us for our October guild meeting. Emilie is a French Canadian living in Joliette, Québec. Emilie will be presenting her lecture on “What is Improv and the Creative Process?” Emilie, a palliative care physician at her local hospital, began quilting in 2013-2014 during her residency years. She quickly drifted towards improv quilting and curve quilting.
Improvisation is at the core of Emilie’s work, and she believes improvisation is a great way to build resilience. It creates a space of freedom, where she likes to play with colours, value, movement and curves.
In 2021, Emilie’s quilt, Blooming, won best of show at QuiltCon. It was the first time she submitted a quilt to QuiltCon. The quilt was pieced while she was pregnant with her first child, and was machine quilted on her domestic machine, some of it with her newborn on her in an infant carrier. Her quilt, Live Stream (What lies beyond the physical world), was shown at QuiltCon 2024, in Raleigh, NC.
In addition to her life as a quilter and palliative care physician, she is the mother of two little girls. She is honoured to share her inspirations with us and hopes to ignite our journey into quilt improvisation.
Bienvenue, Emilie!
