STBA* May 2025

Speaker: Sara Humphrey, Yorkshire, England

Topic: Recycled & Reimagines: Modern Quilters & Traditional Blocks

As a modern quilt maker, Sarah shares that she relies heavily on the traditions of our craft – and feels she is not alone in that. Many modern quilters recycle and reimagine well-known blocks in a style known as ‘modern traditionalism’. During this lecture Sarah will discuss what makes a quilt modern, borrowing from the past, and how you can play with colour, scale, layout, and more to achieve a modern quilt from a traditional design. This is Sarah’s third lecture for our STBA days. She is a popular presenter at the Birmingham Festival of Quilts each year, and our members have found Sarah’s presentation to be informative, professionally presented and filled with inspiration. Hope you can join us for this special lecture from a favourite presenter.
